quikkplay Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-10-30

quikkplay is an Android media app for browsing, organizing, playing, casting, captioning, preparing compatible playback, and quickly sharing media. This Privacy Policy explains what data quikkplay accesses, stores, uses, and shares.

Developer: QuikkLabs

Privacy contact: quikklabs.support@gmail.com

This policy applies to the public Google Play build of quikkplay.

The credential, backup and diagnostics protections described here include fixes prepared for the next app update. These fixes are not yet distributed through Google Play. Older installed builds may include more data in backups or save crash records even when diagnostics are off. Until the fixed update arrives, fully close and reopen the app after changing or removing a caption API key, before generating more captions.

Summary

quikkplay is designed to keep media activity on your device whenever possible. The app does not sell personal data or include advertising SDKs. Google libraries used for Cast and code scanning can send usage and diagnostic information to Google, as described below.

quikkplay accesses your selected media library to provide media browsing, playback, casting, subtitle, conversion, diagnostics, and related app features. Network features include Jellyfin, Cast, the custom Cast receiver and generated subtitles through ElevenLabs. Google libraries may also make service and diagnostic requests.

Data quikkplay Accesses Or Stores

Local Media

When you grant media permissions, quikkplay can access videos, images, audio files, media metadata, album artwork, thumbnails, folders, file names, durations, sizes, dates, and related Android MediaStore information. quikkplay uses this data to show your library, sort and search media, play files, cast files, discover subtitles, generate temporary files needed for playback or conversion, and remember playback state.

quikkplay stores some local app data on your device, including preferences, recent playback state, resume positions, favorite markers, selected audio or subtitle tracks, subtitle-library links, generated caption files, thumbnails, cache files, diagnostics logs when enabled, and temporary conversion or Cast-serving files.

Jellyfin

If you connect a Jellyfin server, quikkplay uses the server URL, username, password during sign-in, access token, user id, display name, media item ids, library metadata, playback URLs, stream choices, subtitle/audio track choices, and playback-related metadata needed to browse and play Jellyfin media.

quikkplay stores the Jellyfin server URL, username, access token, user id, display name, stream quality preferences, and playback memory on your device so you do not need to reconnect each time. The password entered during Jellyfin sign-in is used to request an access token. If you choose to save your login, Android Credential Manager can store it with your selected credential provider. quikkplay does not store the password in its own preferences. Removing the Jellyfin connection does not necessarily remove a login saved with that provider.

Jellyfin requests are sent to the server URL you provide. Depending on your server configuration, that may be a device on your local network or a remote server you control.

Generated Subtitles With ElevenLabs

Generated subtitles are optional. If you choose to generate captions, quikkplay sends audio from the selected media to the ElevenLabs Speech to Text API. For video files, quikkplay first creates a temporary audio-only speech proxy and uploads that audio proxy. For audio files, quikkplay uploads the selected audio file unless it is too large.

quikkplay uses the ElevenLabs response to create a WebVTT subtitle file on your device. quikkplay stores your ElevenLabs API key in encrypted app-private settings and sends it to ElevenLabs to authorize caption requests. Public releases require a key entered by the user; debug developer builds may include a developer fallback key.

Generating captions can consume your ElevenLabs quota or incur charges. Canceling a request cannot recall audio already sent or guarantee that ElevenLabs will not process or charge for it. quikkplay does not automatically retry a failed transcription. Temporary video speech proxies are deleted after normal completion or failure; abandoned proxies older than 24 hours are removed when another video caption job starts. Generated caption files remain until removed with app data or applicable cleanup.

ElevenLabs processes uploaded audio under its own terms and privacy practices. Its documentation describes default retention of speech-to-text audio and transcript output. quikkplay does not request the enterprise-only zero-retention mode. See ElevenLabs privacy policy and speech-to-text request settings. Do not use generated subtitles for media you do not want sent to ElevenLabs.

Caption requests send the selected audio and your API key to ElevenLabs. The key links requests to your account. ElevenLabs' policy also covers IP-derived approximate location and request-usage information. Depending on your account and controls, its terms permit retained content for service/model improvement, safety and personalization, and location/usage metadata for marketing. QuikkPlay does not request zero retention or guarantee an account-wide training opt-out. Manage provider controls and deletion through ElevenLabs. QuikkPlay has no in-app ads; these are uses described by the external provider.

Cast And Local Network Playback

If you cast media, quikkplay uses Google Cast and may temporarily serve selected local media, subtitles, generated captions, or prepared playback files from your Android device over unencrypted HTTP on your local network so the Cast receiver can load them. Access uses unguessable session URLs. Anyone who obtains a valid URL on the network can use it. Assets can remain available while the app offers interrupted-session recovery; stopping/clearing the session or explicitly leaving recovery revokes those URLs.

quikkplay's custom Cast receiver is hosted at https://quikkplay-receiver.netlify.app/. During Cast playback, media titles, metadata, playback URLs, subtitles, caption tracks, and receiver status messages may be sent between the Android app, Google Cast services, the Cast receiver, and the Cast device as needed to play the selected media.

For Jellyfin casting, quikkplay may request or proxy Jellyfin media, poster, and subtitle URLs so the Cast receiver can play the selected item.

Diagnostics

Diagnostics are optional and can be enabled in Settings. When diagnostics are enabled, quikkplay writes local diagnostic logs to help troubleshoot playback, Cast, subtitle, and performance issues. Diagnostics may include app version, device model, Android version, memory/cache information, event names, playback route information, media ids, file names, file paths, network hosts, Cast device interaction details, receiver messages, error messages, and stack traces.

quikkplay attempts to redact sensitive values such as API keys, passwords, access tokens, and token query parameters in diagnostic attributes. Diagnostics remain on your device unless you choose to save or share an export.

When diagnostics are enabled, crash details may be saved locally for an export. Turning diagnostics off stops new app diagnostics; previously saved logs remain until replaced or cleared. Event logs rotate across three files of about 1 MiB each; cached export copies are limited to five. Review an export before sharing: ordinary filenames, hosts and device details can still identify you. quikkplay does not automatically upload diagnostics to QuikkLabs.

App Preferences And Device Identifiers

quikkplay stores app preferences such as theme, language, gallery layout, sort choices, playback controls, subtitle language, stream quality, and diagnostic mode on your device.

For Jellyfin, quikkplay creates or uses a device identifier for Jellyfin client identification. This identifier is used to help your Jellyfin server recognize the quikkplay client.

Google SDK Data

Google's Cast SDK sends discovery/session events and app, SDK and device information to Google for usage and performance analysis. Code-scanner code is packaged for a disabled TV integration, but no scanner action is available in the current standard app. Compiled startup code registers its components without starting scanner telemetry. Google's scanner disclosures would apply if that feature were re-enabled. Google states that these SDK reports use encrypted transport. These reports are separate from quikkplay's optional local diagnostics; turning off app diagnostics does not turn off Google SDK reporting. See Google Cast disclosures and Google ML Kit disclosures for Google's handling of these reports.

How quikkplay Uses Data

quikkplay uses accessed or stored data to:

Sharing And Third Parties

quikkplay does not sell personal or sensitive user data.

quikkplay shares or transmits data only when needed for app features you choose to use:

quikkplay does not include advertising SDKs. Google SDK usage reporting is described above.

Security

quikkplay uses Android app-private storage for app preferences, generated captions, caches, and diagnostics. App-owned access tokens and API keys use Android Keystore-backed encryption. Offline downloads are stored in app-specific storage and are not individually encrypted by quikkplay. Network requests to ElevenLabs and the hosted Cast receiver use HTTPS. Jellyfin connections use the server URL you provide; approving an http:// Jellyfin server sends login, playback and other requests without transport encryption, whether that server is local or remote. Local-network Cast serving also uses HTTP.

No security method is perfect. You should only connect quikkplay to servers and networks you trust.

Retention And Deletion

quikkplay keeps local app data until it is replaced, cleared by an in-app action, removed by Android storage cleanup, or deleted when you uninstall the app.

You can delete data in these ways:

quikkplay does not provide user accounts with QuikkLabs, so there is no QuikkLabs account to delete. If you use Jellyfin or ElevenLabs, manage account deletion and server-side data directly with those services.

Android Backup And Device Transfer

The release privacy fixes exclude encrypted secrets, historical main preferences, pairing preferences, download metadata/files, generated captions and internal diagnostics from Android cloud backup and device transfer through backup rules. This does not erase older backups, which may have different contents. Other app data may still be backed up. Files you export or save outside app-private storage and copies already shared with other apps are not removed by uninstalling the app.

Android may back up or transfer some app data depending on your device settings, Android version, and Google account backup configuration. This can include app-private preferences unless excluded by the app or operating system behavior.

Website And Support

The QuikkLabs support website and the Cast receiver are hosted on Netlify. Requests to these sites disclose ordinary connection information, such as your IP address and requested URL, to the hosting provider. If you email support, your message and any attachments are processed by the email provider and QuikkLabs to handle your request. Do not send passwords, API keys, access tokens or private media. Contact the support address for help deleting information you have submitted.

Children

quikkplay is not directed to children. Do not use quikkplay to process children's personal data unless you have the legal right to do so and the connected services you use permit it.

Changes

This Privacy Policy may be updated when quikkplay changes its features, data handling, third-party services, or legal requirements. The latest version should be available from quikkplay's store listing and from within the app.
